Club Lounge Access: Which Status and Room Types Get You In
Program-by-program rules for hotel club lounges, the brands that exclude them, and when paying for a club-level room is worth it.
A hotel club lounge, sometimes called an executive lounge, can mean breakfast, evening snacks and drinks, and a quiet place to work, included in your stay. There are two ways in: elite status, and paying for a club-level room. Both come with exceptions.
Program rules change. Check each program’s official benefit wording before you rely on lounge access.
Which tiers include lounge access
In the programs that offer it, lounge access is usually an upper-tier benefit. The wording matters:
- “At participating hotels” means only hotels that have a lounge.
- Brand exceptions are common. Some luxury and lifestyle brands exclude elite lounge access even when they have a lounge.
- Some programs and tiers don’t include lounge access and focus on other benefits, such as breakfast or a food and drink credit.
For example, Marriott Platinum Elite includes lounges at eight brands, Hilton Diamond includes executive lounges where available, and World of Hyatt Globalist includes club lounges, with breakfast instead where a hotel has no lounge.
Brands and properties that exclude it
Before you book a stay where the lounge matters:
- Check the program’s benefits page for brand exceptions.
- Check the hotel’s own page to see whether it has a lounge.
- Check the lounge’s hours and what’s served. Some lounges close on weekends or serve only drinks.
What lounges usually offer
It varies a lot by hotel, but typically:
- Breakfast in the morning.
- Snacks and soft drinks during the day.
- Evening food and drinks, sometimes substantial enough to replace dinner.
- Workspace and quiet.
Don’t assume a lounge will replace meals until you’ve seen what that hotel serves.
Paying for a club-level room
Some hotels sell club-level rooms that include lounge access. A simple value test:
- What extra does the club room cost per night?
- What would you otherwise spend on breakfast, drinks and snacks for everyone in the room?
For example, if a club room costs $80 a night more and two people would otherwise spend $60 on breakfast and $40 on evening drinks, the lounge saves $20 a night, plus the convenience. If you’d only grab a coffee, it doesn’t pay.
Guests and families
- Guest rules vary: many lounges admit one guest with the member, some more.
- Children may be welcome at some times and not others.
- Ask at check-in if you’re travelling as a family.
